Yokneam Synagogue
Arc in the Forest
The building is constructed in the shape of a compass arc, connecting the city to the forest. The concave side embraces the city, while the convex side opens to the forest view.
The Ark faces Jerusalem against a wall clad in Jerusalem stone.
The design concept is inspired by the saying, “Holiness rests only on what is hidden from view”: the entrance doors are concealed as part of the facade, and the access path leads to a window framing the forest view without allowing direct entry. The prayer hall ceiling is designed as a large TALLIT, uniting the prayers beneath it.
